Internships

Testimonial

I entered my internship programme with the desire to improve professionally and the hope that it would provide the next step in my career path and I have been overwhelmed with the opportunity that I have discovered in working within such an accomplished and welcoming veterinary team. The infectious enthusiasm for the veterinary profession and fantastic patient care at SCVS has been the most rewarding experience in my career so far.

Rotating interns

Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists is a specialist led, referral only hospital in the New Forest. We have specialist services in Anaesthesia, Cardiology, Dermatology, Internal medicine, Neurology, Soft tissue, Orthopaedic and Neuro surgery and Diagnostic Imaging. We also have extensive patient rehabilitation services including physiotherapy.

Successful applicants would join our team of eight rotating interns, who play a key role in the management, monitoring and treatment of our patients. Interns rotate between Anaesthesia, Internal medicine, Soft Tissue Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Neurology, and the out of hours service, over a twelve month period, in three week rotations. A structured program of teaching including induction, seminars, journal clubs and presentations is provided. Interns are also encouraged to prepare and publish scientific research during their internship. One week and a generous CPD allowance are provided, in addition to four weeks holiday.

Applicants should be members of the RCVS and have excellent communication skills. Previous experience in small animal practice or an internship is an advantage, but excellent new graduates would also be considered.

We have three staggered intake periods during the year, and are keen for potential applicants to visit the practice and meet our current intern team.

To apply, please send a cover letter, CV and two referees to recruitment@scvetspecialists.co.uk
