Anaesthesia Residency opportunity at Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists, Hampshire, UK.

We have a position available for an additional Resident to join our existing team of 2 ECVAA Diplomates, 2 Residency trained Clinicians, 3 ECVAA Residents, 2 Anaesthesia Interns and 6 Anaesthesia Nurses. Candidates must have at least 12 months experience, either in general practice, or a rotating internship. Completion of an Anaesthesia Internship is desirable.

SCVS is a busy, multi-disciplinary referral practice in the heart of the New Forest, Hampshire, with Specialists in Soft Tissue and Orthopaedic Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Cardiology, Dermatology and Diagnostic Imaging. The anaesthesia service is active in clinical research and has numerous projects currently underway. Anaesthetic facilities include neuromuscular monitoring, dedicated ultrasound and electrolocation for loco-regional anaesthesia, complete physiological monitoring including MRI compatible monitoring, digital ventilators and recently upgraded practice-wide infusion equipment. Currently, the practice is undergoing a £6million redevelopment with a new surgical complex opening October 2022 and imaging facility early 2023.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for anaesthesia, work well within a multi-disciplinary team and be registered, or eligible to register, with the MRCVS. The candidate must also have a good standard of spoken and written English, preferably by examination. The position involves primary anaesthetic responsibility (under supervision) for patients undergoing complex soft tissue surgery, minimally invasive and interventional procedures, orthopaedic surgery, neurosurgery (spine and brain surgery), and advanced diagnostic procedures, with MRI and CT both on site. You will also have some involvement in the care of patients within ICU and participate in a 1 in 4 out of hours anaesthesia rota. The position is for 4 years and will follow an Alternate Track Programme, involving externships at other ECVAA Approved Centres. Significant financial support is available for CPD, travel and accommodation.
