Weekend Wards Veterinary Care Assistant

Job description

Part time - average of 25 hours a week. Permanent, £9.50 per hour. Alternative weekend hours will be considered.

The Role

As a Weekend Veterinary Care Assistant, you will be working with the Wards Nursing team, assisting the Registered Veterinary Nurses as required, including patient restraint, basic inpatient care, and preparing meals for our inpatients, whilst maintaining stock levels and ensuring we maintain our high hygiene standards.

The role involves working 25 hours a week, ideally Fridays 6am-3pm, Saturdays 8am-6pm, Sundays 8am-5pm, additionally two bank holidays a year in line with a rotating pattern. Flexibility is important to be available to provide occasional cover during colleagues annual leave. More flexible working patterns will be considered if different hours are more suitable for the candidate.

Applicant Requirements

Previous experience in veterinary and/or animal care roles is ideal, an animal-related qualification such as an animal management course is highly desirable. Full training is provided, although you do need to be comfortable working within an environment which can be busy and challenging. Teamwork, attention to detail and working to high standards whilst working in a fast-paced environment is essential.

You will be a professional, committed person, who will be dedicated to the care and welfare of our patients. Your ability to work independently, use initiative and communicate well within a team is of great importance, as well as a hard-working, eager nature and confidence when approaching and handling small animals.

Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists, part of the IVC Evidensia, is a busy referral practice in the New Forest, Hampshire. Our facilities include onsite advanced imaging, dedicated ICU ward, in house and external laboratory and equipment for interventional radiological procedures.
