Veterinary Diagnostic Radiographer

SCVS is a multidisciplinary veterinary referral hospital situated in the New Forest National Park, just outside Ringwood.  We have a busy and varied caseload, providing the very highest standards of care to our small animal patients.

The construction of our new hospital expansion is well under way and is due to be completed in October 2022.  Once this is open, redevelopment of the existing hospital buildings will start to create a new diagnostic imaging suite with a brand-new MRI scanner and x-ray equipment as well as improving the CT and ultrasound facilities.


We currently have one Philips DR X-ray room; this is a busy room covering all of the hospital's specialities. We also have a Fuji Nano portable x-ray machine for orthopaedic theatre work, in addition to two Fluroscopy image intensifiers for theatre screening, cardiology studies and orthopaedic cases.

Job Summary

The successful applicant will take an active role within the diagnostic imaging team. The team comprises of three veterinary radiologists, two resident radiologists, one diagnostic imaging intern and two veterinary radiographers.

The team provides imaging services to all of the specialities in the hospital; including internal medicine, neurology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, cardiology, oncology and dermatology.  The primary role of the applicant will be to take an active and unsupervised role in the busy x-ray room and ensure high quality diagnostic images are obtained.

Veterinary radiology experience is desirable but not essential. 

Key Roles:

  • Acquiring high-quality diagnostic studies in a safe and time-efficient manner.
  • Providing training in radiography skills to nurses and interns.
  • Ensuring radiation safety measures are upheld.

Working hours are 40 hours per week; core working hours, no weekend or bank holiday commitments. Optional on-call duties maybe considered in the future. Part-time will be also be considered.


Applicants should be qualified diagnostic radiographers holding either a BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography, or other relevant degree / qualification. Prior experience in veterinary radiography is desirable, but not essential. Experience in CT and MRI would also be desirable but not essential.

Continued professional development is encouraged and funded.
